Parametric Analyses of the Dynamic Response and Fatigue Life of a Compliant Vertical Access Riser with Internal Flow

Subsea interventions on wellheads can be directly performed from a platform using compliant vertical access riser (CVAR), thereby incurring tremendous economic benefits. The dynamic response and the fatigue damage of CVAR subjected to regular waves are important for assessing its application feasibility. Therefore, reasonable numerical model is presented considering internal flow slender rod theory. finite element method combined with Newmark-β scheme employed discretize equations update time integration. Palmgren-Miner rule applied life prediction, focusing wave-induced various parameters, including wave height period, flow, external current. results demonstrate that relatively sensitive tension displacement decrease increasing excitation frequency, but opposite true life. In addition, has weak influence CVAR.
